Crop production grew negatively Q3, 2016

The growth in the crops production increased at a negative growth rate of 2.9
percent in the third quarter of 2016 compared to a growth of 8.1 percent in the
similar quarter of 2015, the National Bureau of Statistics has said. The decrease in growth rate was caused by unfavorable rainfall
received in some production areas during the agricultural season.
Major crops which contributed to such increase include maize
which increased by 35.3 percent from 1,456 thousand tons in the third quarter of 2015 compared to
1,456 thousand tons in the similar quarter of 2016.
Paddy harvested increased by
34.5 percent from 537 thousand
tons in the third quarter of 2015 to 722 thousand tons in the third quarter of
2016.
Beans increased by 64.2 percent that is from 106 thousand tons
in 2015 to 174 thousand tons in the similar quarter of 2016.
Round potato increased by 37.5 percent from 72 thousand tons in
2015 to 99 thousand tons in the similar quarter of 2016.
Sweet potato increased by 17.9 percent from 39 thousand tons in
2015 to 46 thousand tons in the similar quarter of 2016.
