Mining activities grew by 20pc

The activity registered a growth rate of 19.9 percent in the third quarter of 2016 compared to 8.0 percent recorded during a similar quarter of 2015, the National Bureau of Statistics has said.The growth was attributed to an increase in production of Tanzanite, salt, natural gas, gold, copper, silver and coal production.  Significant production was observed in the natural gas production, copper and salt.

Mining and Quarrying includes the activities of extraction of minerals occurring naturally as solids (coal and ores), liquids (petroleum) or gases (natural gas).
Extraction can be underground, on the surface mining or well operation. It also includes supplementary activities aimed at preparing the crude materials for marketing.
