INAUGURAL STONE TOWN FOOD FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN OCTOBER
The first Stone Town Food
Festival, showcasing the city’s culinary traditions, will be held 13 to 16
October 2016 with hotels and eateries across the city taking part.
Coinciding with World
Food Day on 16 October, each hotel and restaurant participating will offer a specially
designed menu sold exclusively during the period of the festival and costing Tsh
5.000 to 38.000.
During the event there
will be other events includes an open kitchen in the Forodhani Corner where vendors
can showcase their food offerings on the 15thOctober and Cultural events with
music performances and art exhibitions at participating restaurants.
Stone Town Food Festival
will feature other participants which areEmerson Spice Tea House restaurant, Emerson
on Hurumzi Tea House restaurant, Secret Garden at Emerson Spice, 6 degrees
South, Africa house, Jafferji House, Ocean grill, Stone Town Café, Café Foro,
Archipelago, Taarab at Doubletree by Hilton, Beyt Al Salam, Park Hyatt
Zanzibar, Kisiwa House, Ocean Grill, Monsoon, Golden Tulip Boutique, Golden
Tulip Resort, Mashariki Palace Hotel, Tapería Wine & Tapas Bar, La Taverna,
Houseof Kakao, Local Food Bazaar at Zanzibar Airport, Maru Maru, and Zanzibar
Serena Hotel.
“The organising committee
held its first meeting on 6 September to coordinate all aspects of the festival
and so far 25 establishments have joined in,” said Katia Wellving, one of the
organizer for Stone Town Food Festival.
She added that, “Stone
Town’s unique and rich cultural heritage has been recognized by UNESCO and this
is a great opportunity to showcase both that and its rich food traditions.”
