Tanzania inflation rate lower further



By Mnaku MbaniAnnual Headline Inflation Rate for the month of September, 2016 has further decreased to 4.5% from 4.9% recorded in August, 2016.
The decrease of Annual Headline Inflation Rate for the year ending September, 2016 explains that, the speed of price increase for commodities in the year ending September, 2016 has decreased as compared to the speed of price increase recorded for the year ended August, 2016.


The overall index went up to 103.05 in September, 2016 from 98.64 recorded in September, 2015.

Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate for the Month of September 2016 has decreased to 6.0% from 7.0% recorded in August, 2016.

Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home has decreased to 6.1% in September, 2016 from 7.0% recorded in August, 2016.

In addition, the 12 month index change for non food products has slightly decreased to 2.7% in September, 2016 from 3.0% recorded in August, 2016.

The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy for the month of September, 2016 has slightly decreased to 2.4% from 2.6% recorded in August, 2016.


The report shows that the Monthly Headline Inflation Rate for the month of September, 2016 has decreased by 0.2%, the same change as it was recorded in August, 2016.
The overall index has decreased to 103.05 in September, 2016 from 103.28 recorded in August; 2016.
The decrease of the overall index is mainly attributed to price decrease of food and non-food items.
Some food items that contributed to such decrease include; rice by 2.6%, maize flour by 1.0%, sardines by 3.0% and vegetables by 4.3%.
On the other hand some non-food items that attributed to price decrease include diesel by 2.9%, petrol at 2.8% and kerosene by 2.9%.
