Tanzania inflation rate increases in February

Consumers in Tanzania spent more to obtain goods and services last month following an increase of inflation rate.The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported yesterday that the inflation rate for February increased to 5.5 per cent from 5.2 per cent recorded in January this year.

The NBS price and population manager Ruth Minja said the increase of inflation was result of increased prices of goods and services for the year ended in February this year.
She mentioned goods that caused an increase in inflation as maize flour, maize, sorghum, bananas and beans.
When measured on monthly basis, Ruth said the inflation rate increased by 1.01 because of increased prices of food commodities.
